Power steering shenanigans ..... 200 1989

Ok, so here's the story:

My power steering belt started screaming like a banshee, so loud you could hear it in the next county. So I popped the hood & I cut it off with a knife [...stopped engine first ;-)...]

It took me a few days [and wrong belts] to get another belt on, so I drove it w/o any power assist for the better part of a week. Yesterday morning I finally got a belt on and backed out of the driveway.

As soon as I turned the wheel to make a 90* turn on to the street, the steering started chattering and vibrating. It does this now going backwards & forwards. For left or right turns.

I am guessing some grit settled into an orifice the hydraulics and I just need to flush the p/s system. Am I on the right track ?

Cheers,
John
