question about oil filters 200 1989

I have owed 6 volvos models from 1977 to 1989 all using mann oil filters. When I change oil on all the models except one they always have a filter full of oil when removing from engine. The one model a 1989 245dl with 300,0000 miles from day one when I bought it 4yrs ago with 195,000 miles the oil filter only has 1/4 full of oil in filter upon removal. I always change filter first then remove oil pan nut to remove oil. All vehicles are full of oil on dip stick before removing oil. Why is this one model different and what if anything is it telling me that the filter is not full?
