I too am for the rain gutter mounted racks for the same reason. I have said this before but at the risk of being redundant, Thule gutter mounted brackets are easy to come by at tag sales & probably eBay. I have found them at my local dump swap shed as well. They are rugged, say made in Sweden on them and hold all sorts of accessories and no holes in the roof or expensive riv nuts to buy/install. What more could you ask for if your main purpose is to carry stuff on your roof?
