intank fuel hose question for 83 200

I am going to replace the in-tank feeder pump on my daughter's 1983 244 and have a question about the small hose connecting the pump to the metal pipe assembly. When I did this on son's 1987 the assembly was spring loaded so that and ompressed the filter sock against the tank bottom and needed a compressible accordion type bit of hose. I bought all my parts from FPGroton again and notice that while they show this special hose for later cars, for the 83 they just show a short piece of standard fuel hose. Was the fuel pump metal pipe assembly changed at some point in development so that this special accordion hose is not needed by this earlier car? Can I just cut a short piece of fuel hose to use when I install the new pump. Oh, and yes, I forgot to order this small hose and am wondering if I need to or if make do is perfectly fine in this case?
