Any have a Toyoto Corolla out there. Dumb STARTER question

Sorry, Not my vehicle and didn't want to register on a Yota Forum for 1 question.
One of my daughters Team mates at College has a 2003 Corolla. We are the close Parents so I am the surrogate father to this Volleyball team of Out of Staters. I drove over and did a quick cleaning of the 'big wired' Connections. The Starter needs replacing. Two Raps with a hammer and it started. Then it would restart then it wouldn't until we whacked it again. The job could be easier but not bad. It's a bit tight in there .. How the Heck do you release the Locking mechanism on that small wire? It may be a no brainer when I get the new Stater but at this point, that's the show stopper to a doable job.
