Part orientation in door lock 89 240dl 200

Putting things back together I'm a little confused as to how to attach the drivers door power lock "ring".This ring wraps around the lock cylinder and forms what I will call a "D".As you are looking at it inside the door should the curved part of the D be on the right or the left of the cylinder? I put in on to the right but it did not unlock all the door.I tried putting it on to the left but could not get it to click in place, you know that plastic zip tie thing.Had to stop because it was getting cold out, need to wait AGAIN for warm and dry day off to play. You can tell I'm working outside.Any help always welcomed!
