How to upgrade A/C on 88 240 (with MANUAL Transmission!!) 200 1988

Hello Bricksters:
I just walked by an used auto lot and spotted a gray 240 sedan with MANUAL tranny!! for $1200. I could bargain down to $1K easily.
However, here in Texas it is so close to Hades that we have 9 months of hell-type weather. And I know that the A/C on 240's did not get an A/C upgrade till 91. BUT, I installed an upgraded evaporator from a genuine Volvo kit on my old 83 245 years ago and it worked great with R134. The evaporator was a bigger model than the OEM designed for R12. Are the ones being sold by FCPGroton the bigger more efficient ones? Or are they the wimpy OEM size? I asked FCP Groton's customer service, but they did not know much, only referring me to their kit which contains a bunch of green O-rings and a few fittings. Sad.
I would love to buy the standard shift 240 but only if I can get the A/C up to par for Texas weather.
Any suggestions?
