During the first snow storm of the year, my 1993 940 T stalled and would not start. After checking some obvious stuff, spark, fuel to rail etc. I found the fuel filter to be totally clogged. I had made three attempts to change the filter, but never could get the banjo bolts off without an impact, so it didn't get changed. So, I got to do it in 10 degree weather laying in snow and ice!!
Changed out fuel filter, and figured all was good. It ran WAY better with a new filter, but then it stalled on me a few times. While driving, it will just shutdown. All dash lights come on, and the engine just dies while driving, or stopping at a stop sign, or light. But, it is very intermittent. I drove it for four days, and it didn't stall once. Then, when stopping at a light, it stalled. And then again on the little woman, right in the middle of a bad turn, it died. It will always start right back up again, after it stalls. But, it is so intermittent, it will be tough to trace, as it never locks in.
It is identical to a stall problem I had on my 1987 245. It would just stall, anywhere, anytime Same exact symptoms. It turned out to be the fuel injection relay. Replaced it, and that car never stalled again. This is exactly the same. However, I swapped the fuel inj. relay with a known good one, and an hour into a drive, it stalled!! I thought for sure it was the relay, but it is something else. Would a bad fuel pump (from trying to pump past a clogged fuel filter) cause these symptoms? Thanks.
