Exhaust System 140-160

Greetings. I recently had a custom exhaust system put in my '68 142. The guy did exceptional work, but I made the mistake of describing what I wanted simply as 'quieter'. Which, in my head was, about 75% (I figured that was all that was possible) of the straight-from-the-header/cherry bomb combo the PO had under the car.

Well, he took care of about 95% of the noise. Which, is honestly pretty amazing, but I wouldn't mind hearing an exhaust note over the clacking of the engine when the driving gets spirited. Right now theres a muffler midway with a size-able resonator in front of the gas tank. 2" all the way through. Is a change as simple as a different exhaust tip? Or is the resonator just gobbling up all the sound.

I'm hesitant to post this as it sounds dreadfully vain. But the previous system, or lack there of, set off car alarms, so in contrast this feels like somethings wrong.
