Oil Temp Sender 200 1988

So I have the Fahrenheit gauge (goes up to 300*) and a sender from an 82.
The threading was wrong for my car (88). I've been looking around and I called VDO distribution for a replacement.
They said I needed to know my gauge max temp (300) and the threading of my oil drain plug. I figured it was metric but I called a NAPA(who sells VDO) and I was told my thread is 3/4 16.
But then I called VDO back to get the proper part number and they don't that size.
What should I do?
