Best method for replacing window lift ? 140-160

I have replaced the left side tomahawk back in 1979. At the time I had access to a wood lined bench vise adjusted tight enough for the glass to move around but tight enought so the grove edge of the tomahawk is trapped under the bottom edge of the vise. I lifted up on the glass and the tomahawk trapped under the vise jaws is held in place.

Wood implements seem to be to proper tools to use.

Thanks
