91 740 ECU work in a 92 240 200 1992

The daughter's car, the one that started the love affair with Volvos, has lost the battle. She was driving to work on the frosty morning of Feb 1; The toyota in front of her lost control and spun out across all the lanes and ended up stopped in front of her, facing her. Thanks to her quick reation and the anti-lock brakes she stopped about 4 feet from hitting him. Unfortunately the semi behind her, for what ever reason, didn't/ couldn't stop and slammed into her.
The trunk is gone, pushed like an accordian up to the back window.
Here's my question. We bought a '92 240 from the original owner's grandson, he says it has periods of hard starting, and the Volvo shop that the car has always gone to since new, replaced the AMM and it still has periods of hard starting, the engine turns over for a while before firing. The shop says that it appears to be the ECU. The grandson did not replace it before we bought it. I still have the '91 740 and am wondering if that ECU would be a suitable replacement?....
