Tube from fuel tank goes to nowhere. What does it connect to? 200 1991

Hello,
I was messing around with the fuel system today and found something that didn't seem right. By the fire wall on the drivers side where the fuel hose, return hose and brake lines go there was an open, unconnected tube sticking up. I followed it all the way to the fueltank. It's green (I think), around 3/8 thick and connects to a thicker hose going up to the fuel tank. Where in the engine compartment should it connect to?

Thanks!

John
