1990, 1991, &/or 1992 740 non turbo 745

BRICK BOARD BRAIN TRUST, I'm looking to purchase a 740 series wagon like a GLE non turbo, Is it safe to say these are VERY SIMILAR TO MY'93 240 UNDER THE SKIN? I finally have a good understanding on most repair work on MY 240 I hate starting at square one again. Is there one of these early 90's that is more desirable than another. I've read enough on the 960 to want to avoid these overly complex systems and simple works good for my simple mind. My '93 has the L suffix piston squirters I'd like to be certain to get one of these in my new 700 wagon's with the REDBLOCK . I think
they were used for all '90's and newer but Wouldn't wager a large sum on this outcome. Help please. Bill
