Did a stupid thing while installing new rear springs -- NEED HELP 900 1991

I posted earlier this week about sagging springs on my 91 940 turbo, and started to replace them with new ones from FCP today. The passenger side went fine, but I made a mistake while attempting to loosen the upper spring nut on the driver side...

Instead of loosening the nut, I tightened it. I didn't realize I was turning the wrong direction until the nut was turning, but it wasn't coming loose. I can now see that the nut and bolt are turning together, so I think that the threads on the bolt itself were stripped. The nut/bolt now spin freely in both directions, and I'm not able to remove it.

The bolt seems secure, but I'm afraid it may fall out while driving. I can't see or get to the top of the bolt from the wheel well, so my plan is to gain access by cutting out the nearby sheet metal from inside the trunk. A few questions:

- Is there any danger to cutting into the wheel well metal from the trunk?
- Does anyone know what the top of the bolt looks like? Is it just a threaded rod (in which case I'd be very concerned about the bolt falling out while driving) or is there a nut on top?
- Any other advice that might help?
