The AMM on the '89 wagon may be dying. It's behavior sort of reminded me of the only othe AMM failure I have experienced....started fine this morning after sitting all night, idled fine for a minute then died. Same thing on re-start.
I do recall that when this happened with my old '84 it kind of bogged down slowly and then died. The current condition is more like, it idles fine and then just dies suddenly. It will seem to keep running, though, with a bit of throttle. I moved it onto the street and it seemed okay during that. But with no throttle, no idle.
I had to get to work and there was no time to diagnose or even look under the hood so I drove the 242 and am trying to prepare to deal with the wagon when I get home. It may be an entirely different issue for all I know.
I guess what I am wondering...if it does turn out to be the AMM, which I will determine this evening by disconnecting it...can I substitute an earlier AMM?
I've seen such suggested in recent threads but the only substitute I have at the moment is the very same unit I got for the '84 when it shot craps. So it's a 002 if I'm not mistaken.
If the car idles and runs with the AMM disconnected, should I try this earlier unit? I don't even know if connects the same so this may be useless. But if it does and I were to try it, would it damage someting else? Or would it damage the 002 meter?
