1988 240GL Wagon - Fuel Pump Relay? 1988

The fuel pump relay is one of two in a single box clipped over the passenger's toes - under and behind the glove box. They are usually white plastic, but not always. It is a very common source of trouble for exactly what you describe, next to, in likelihood, the 25A blade fuse holder and its red wiring behind the battery.

One test you can make to see if the relay may be at fault, is bypass it at the fuse panel, by connecting a jumper between fuse 4 and 6. Even with the car turned off, you should hear the pumps start when connecting this jumper.
