Central Locking only unlock working 200 1993

I have a 1993 245 classic 5 speed, 177K miles.

I have a central locking issue that I can't find in searching previous posts.

Using the key in the drivers door I can unlock all of the doors and the tailgate. But trying to lock the doors does not work at all.

I ordered a new relay and swapped it in with no effect: unlock works, lock does not with the new relay in either of the relay positions (lock or unlock).

I have not yet taken the driver's door panel off to take a look. While I expect that is where this is headed, I wanted to get some insight about what to look for given these symptoms.
