Front Caliper and Wheel Bearing Questions ’92 740 700 1992

I’m replacing the front Calipers (Girling brakes) on my ’92 740 and there’s a short (approx. 2.5cm long) extension that has male threads on one end and female on the other. The male brake line fits directly into the female caliper threads but for some reason this short piece is placed in between. Anyone know its purpose?

While I’ve got everything apart I’d like to grease the front bearings. My ’85 740 has a nut and a thin cap that takes the cotter pin to keep the nut from turning. On my ’92 there’s just a beefy nut that I can’t get loose. Any suggestions on how to remove it and torque value?

Thanks,

Michael
