AMM or Fuel Filter 200

I also have a no start similar to sideswipe in my 88 240. The car catches but won't continue to run. I disconnected the AMM but no change. I let it rest and tried again, with AMM reconnected. This time I got it to start, and I was able to drive it for about 1/2 mile. It was going slow with the pedal pretty far down. But then it conked out.

Here's a clue. Last week my wife ran the car until it was just about out of gas. It took 15.8 gal at the pump (is that possible?). But it ran fine for a week. Could this be a delayed clogged fuel filter?

Thanks!
