1986 244DL Antennae Insertion/Removal? 200

Hi Brickboarders:

I can't quite figure out how the antennae on my 1986 244DL is removed, particularly how the serrated "ring" on the inside of the trunk holds the antennae shaft against the inside of the frame. (See pics). The black plastic assembly that the radio wire plugs into is split as shown in the pics, and the outside black "boot" is a bit loose and I want to fix it all to make sure water does not seep in.

The ring seems like some kind of press fitting, but I can't get it to snug up right against the frame. Any help appreciated! Thank you.
