rubbing sound from front end 200

Today was the first day I have have driven my new 1991 240 wagon to work!

First thing I noticed right away is that there is a rubbing noise coming from the front end (or at least I think its the front end) its not a sound like a unbalanced tire but kind of a rubbing/grinding sound, yesterday I thought it was random but the frequency does increase with speed and at around 60MPH it sounds a little louder. when I apply the brakes its still there but it gets quieter if turn left or right doesnt matter. I know that I need new ball joints and maybe tierod ends, but what could be the cause of this sound? could it be wheel bearings?
