rack & pinion conversion feasibility? 444-544

Since I am not a purist, I am considering modifying my recently acquired 63 544 to a power rack & pinion steering. Inspection of the frame looks like an appropriately sized unit would fit nicely ahead of the front crossbeam. Weld on two mounting brackets with the right angles and install it. They now have electric power steering pumps that wouldn't need to be fan belt driven and absorb engine power. Has anyone out there made a rack & pinion steering modification? If so,any pro or cons? This would allow me to install one of the smaller diameter steering wheels and not put up with the effort of turning the wheel that the original size steering wheel compensated for.
