Which end is up? 700

I can't imagine that the bump stop/spring seat interface is in play unless you're constantly hitting speed bumps or something, and compressing the strut all the time. Did you get a new spring seat? The originals were two pieces, one the rubber and the other the steel plate on top of it, and the bearing sits on top of that. The newer ones are one piece with the steel imbedded in the rubber, and the bearing sits down in the rubber part.

Is there any chance that the bearing is in upside down?

I have heard complaints of poor quality strut mounts, the upper plate that has the two bolts.
