I bought Volvo OEM rear trailing arm bushes (OEM P/N 1229165 with dual labels - made in Slovak Republic (stuck on casing) and West Germany (moulded in rubber)!?) but I am concerned that the parts may be defective and dont want them to get permanently stuck halfway into the chassis. BrickBoard users seem to recommend Volvo OEM bushes instead of very cheap "no name" ones.
Firstly, one end of the bush is just under 1mm (40 thou)larger than the other, so the bush is slightly tapered. But a 40 thou difference seems a lot in a press fit part, although the steel outer casing of the bush is just less than 1mm thick so maybe it deforms as its forced into the half inch wide chassis retainer? Or maybe it does not deform and gets permanently stuck. Or maybe the chassis retainer on the differential side is 40 thou larger than the retainer on the wheel side? The Green Book (TP30125-2) has no advice on this.
Secondly, the cross section of the bush casing not circular but elliptical, with diameters measured 90degrees apart varying by just under 1mm (40 thou). The fat section is across the top and bottom of the bush where there is solid rubber and the thin section is where there is no rubber. I'm not too worried about this (defect?) as the elliptical cross section should hopefully deform into circular cross section when pressed into chassis retainer and not slip or move on insertion tool face?
If the BB opinion is that the bushes are OK, should I use extreme pressure grease on the bush casing and chassis retainer to reduce risk of getting jammed? Dont feel good about using dish washing liquid.
Had previous trouble with Volvo OEM parts made in Eastern Europe - cam belt tensioner died quickly due to little or no grease in its bearing.
