Slipping in 1st Gear To 2nd Gear 700 1991

Hello. 1991 740 sedan with AW70L tranny. 160,000 miles. ATF fluid looks good, is at proper level, and was changed/flushed 10,000 miles ago when car was bought. Problem which has developed over last week is that when I first go to use car in morning it doesn't switch from first to 2nd gear right away. It revs up to about 4000 rpm. After a minute or so like this it then finally goes into 2nd gear. Thereafter for rest of day it is good. Normally this switch from 1st to 2nd(and 2nd to 3rd , etc.) happens between 2500 to 3000 rpm. I really know nothing about trannys other then how to do a fluid change/flush. Does it sound like it needs a change/flush ? I think there is a cable by throttle that goes to tranny that can be adjusted. Would adjusting this cable help ? If so loosen it or tighten it ??
