Both are good Volvos, and a quantum leap from the 240's we drove for decades.
The engine front belts and things are more critical. Failure of either the serpentine or the timing belt can mean major engine damage. The scheduled T-belt replacement is every 70,000 miles, but unless you have good knowledge of the car's record, plan on having it done.
We replaced all the things at 190,000 prompted by a leaky water pump, which is driven by the timing belt. I had a Volvo specialist shop do the work, and the $1400 was worth it to me. When inspecting and negotiating the car, keep these costs in mind and on the table.
Other repairs I have done are replacement of all plugs and coil packs, and a new radiator and coolant tank. None was other than fair wear and tear.
In addition to the owner's manual, be sure to get all the remote door lock fobs. They are hard to find used and expensive from a dealer. The batteries are available from an Interstate store. Additional door/ignition keys must, to my knowledge, come from a dealer.
If the car has a CD changer, it will be in the right side cargo area storage bin. Our 965 came from an eBay seller who apparently was unaware of the changer.
