Front muffler blown, replace with....? 200 1981

So right in front of the front muffle the exhaust pipe broke, so my plan to fix it on the cheap involves hacksawing off the old front muffler and either replacing it with:

1) Cut it and put a 20" or so straight pipe in its place

2) Cut it an replace it with a cheap 20" or so muffler, glasspack, turbo, etc

3) Suggestions anyone?

Im already planning on eventually getting the IPD sport exhaust for $200 so this is mainly going to be a temporary fix methinks
