Broken synchro's / How long can I double clutch? 200 1982

Starting last week I am finding it almost impossible now to shift into 2nd & 4th gear without Double clutching.I guess that will eventually mean a new transmission but how long can I go this way before I need to replace that gearbox ? Have had a lot of expense lately & if I can hold off it would be bodacious.Any info on how much a rebuilt gearbox costs or a good used part ? If I do this I also want to rebuild the Overdrive while the gearbox is out.I can do the installation myself.Car is an '82 244DL 4spd+OD 187,789 miles.
