It could be as simple as tightening the the retaining cap on the shifter lever. Peel the boot away and you'll see the hex head of the cap. If it's loose, tightening it will probably solve your problem. If not, you should remove it and the lever to see if Eric's suggestion abut the nylon piece inside is right. I'm sure Eric could tell you where t get one of those if that's the case.
