Replacing steering rack (need opinions) 200 1987

Hello all,

I replaced a rack on a 84 a few years back with a NAPA $200 part. It wasn't a NAPA part but I can't remember the name. The rack had some slop in it, and I was never happy with it. It seemed to add to the harshness of ride, but I also had someother suspension mods that didn't help.

I'm about to replace the rack on the wifes 87. Now you guys tell me if I'm wrong, but I thought there was somewhat of an industry standard when it came to the following terms.

Rebuilt = clean it, replace the obvious, paint it, box it. = Low dollar

Remanufactured = go over everything with a fine toothed comb, what does not meet spec is replaced, test it, paint it, box it. = More money

New\Dealer = $$$BIG-BUCKS

The reason I ask is I looked at racks online from local stores and they all mention the word REMANUFACTURED, even on racks under $200???

Here are my needs, I want a nice tight rack, and I want to get it local. I don't want to pack and ship a core. Below is a list of racks I found online at local stores, tell me if you've have used any, or what you think

Autozone - (Duralast) $182.99
Advance Auto - (Fenco) $169.99 they also had (Beck\Arnley) $348.89
NAPA - (NAPA) $365.70

Autozone had a nice write-up, they made it sound like everything is gone over and you get a quality part for a good price. I don't know if that is true or if they are just blowing smoke.
