Fuel Gauge Misbehaving After Fuel Pump Replacement / 1992 740 Rex/Regina 700

A couple of months ago I replaced the (single in-tank) fuel pump in my 1992 Rex/Regina 740. Had some trouble getting the sender reinstalled but thought I did so without damaging anything.
Since then, the fuel gauge has read incorrectly. When I fill the tank the gauge is slow to register a full tank. After that, when the tank is actually 3/4 full (estimated by trip meter) it registers half full, and when the tank is actually half full it registers empty (with warning light on).
Any ideas what might be going on or how I can get it working properly?

Thanks,

Rob
