If you know someone has been inside this one, I'll bet it was disassembled on a garage workbench instead of a kitchen table or otherwise clean area. There's a powerful magnet in the gauge which sucks up iron filings only to impede the moving coil that surrounds the magnet poles.

Replace the gauge with one having the same "K" number on the face. Only from 92-93 240's. Or if you are into microsurgery, pull it apart (in a clean area) and remove the magnetic debris.
