what should the alt.output be ? 200 1992

Alternator output should be 13.8 to 14.2 volts. A little lower at idle can be acceptable, especially under load. Less than 13.8 volts won't charge the battery enough. Rev it up, and see what the voltage is. Probably not enough.

Most of the parts chain stores will test alternators for free.

The Ford alternator on my V8 powered 744 was putting out 17 volts, and that toasts the battery. A free test at O'Reilly Auto parts gave the same result. A new regulator for $21 and it was fine
