Intermittent passenger tail light 200 1979

Hi everyone,
I just found out that, yes Virginia, they do pull over Volvos! Driving back this evening from a friend's shop and had blue lights lit up behind me. Pulled over and the officer, after she checked license/registration/insurance, informed me that I had a burned out tail light on my '79 264.

I opened my trunk and removed the cover from the passenger tail light housing. As I was about to turn the socket to the bulb (it is a running light, not turn signal or brake light) it flickered back on. Released the socket and the light went out again. Upon further investigation with a flashlight it seems the copper contact material on the flexible circuit board has been worn away enough to prevent a good contact. It only stays lit when I press the bulb socket towards the rear of the vehicle. Thankfully, by this time the officer had left me to find other ne'r-do-wells.

I've searched the FAQs and searched the forum posts but don't see the same problem anywhere else. Is this the reason some people have taken to jumpering the sockets from the circuit board? Is it possible to repair the copper strip? I tried the pencil eraser trick to no avail. BTW, all sockets are original Volvo parts (she only has 79K miles on her, still a baby). All help is appreciated, ---rick
