Steering u-joint difference 700

Jerry, you are right. It looks like the original u-joint on my incorporates some kind of rubber thing in the bottom (spline) end, making it about an inch longer. Thus my steering column is that much shorter and u-joint on the '87 rack would not have reached it.

Right now I'm in the throes of putting the "new" rack in and am having little luck getting the top of the u-joint to slide onto the bottom of the steering column. This one-day job turned into a two-day job and looks like it will now become a three-day job. I'm heading over to the FAQ to see if I can find any tips, other than a helper, which I don't have.

On the bright side,I've found all of the four banjo fitting copper washers either stuck to the bolts, fittings or in the crap on my cardboard creeper. Originally it looked like there was only one.
