what is the purpose of and safe location for the black box under rear deck floor in the 92 240 wagon 200

hi sages- completed my in tank fuel pump and sender unit over a period of weekends. had to take out the 3d seat and floor to access the bung nut and unit. forgot where the black plastic box goes which has a gray cable on one end and black wire on the other end. box is the size of a cigarette pack but thinner and has a plastigoop adhesive on it. it appears to be a connector of some type and appears to go under the rear deck floor panel. the gray cable goes through the plate which covers the tank pump access. other wire from it goes in the spare tire holder on the left. what is it ? seems i should lift up the panel and put it between the panel and metal part of the floor in a slot there. surmise panel itself should not rest on the box. cant remember exactly where it goes. thanks tons oldduke
