fuel pump problems i think 700 1990

its
a 1990 740 gl series. HERS THE problem I will be going down the road and the car will loose power about a week ago, my mechanic replace the original
looking eletrical connections that go to the fuel pump with some slightly larger connections that didnt work to well.the pump itself seemed a little loose so after the second time it lost power sometimes I would shake it and it would start right up.but alot of times it would be a hard start b4 it would go again. should I let it warm up longer than ten seconds when i first start it?
oR SHOULD i JUST REPLACE THE FUEL PUMP ALLTOGETHER? Or would it be better if I go to a junk yark cut some old wires and splice them together and use their old female connections and do you think that will work.
