Not quite true. The splines will give you a few choices of position so you have to rely on what it looks like when fitted. I've just done this job on my "new" wagon. Mine was out of phase and I've now corrected it. Not tested yet to see if it's cured my "rumbles. Have a look here for pics and comments.
