940 Timing Belt Failure

Dear robertmfranklin,

Hope you're well. For a '93 940, the recommended interval is 50K miles. However, as heat and time degrade rubber, I'd change any belt that has 10 years of service, regardless of mileage.

For '94 and '95 940s, with the FD engine, the recommended interval is 100K miles. For all others, 50K miles is the rule. As I do not understand what is so different about the FD engine, that allows a doubling of the timing belt's working life, I change all timing belts on 940s at 50K miles / 10 years, whichever comes first.

Timing belts are cheap and relatively easy to install. I do not want to risk missing an appointment, because I tried to get the last penny of value from a timing belt.

Hope this helps.

Yours faithfully,

Spook
