Should I buy a 1990 240 as first car? 200

2 years ago I paid $700 for a nice, operable 1989 240 wagon here in VA. $2500 for a car that needs work??!! Obviously I will be driving to Washington State if I ever decide to sell mine.

1990 has an airbag, the crappy old-style A/C system (unless converted and new evaporator installed), and no anti-lock brakes. If you're a new driver, anti-lock brakes are a really good thing to have.

if seller is a mechanic, he should be able to give you a list of all the work recently performed on the car. It's okay to "pester him with a ton of questions", too, since he's hoping to lighten your wallet to the tune of a couple grand. At 21 years old, every one of these cars is different, and beyond routine maintenance there is no way to predict what will need to be done next.
