Excellent summary of contact parch and deformation. And,you are right about the more predictable performance of wide tires at the limit. But MOST people buy wide tires for the look, the tough guy I'm a serious performance driver thing. Considering the wretched state of more and more American roads, I suspect we will see a return to slightly taller tires in the future. Unless the tough guys like to replace $1000+ rims periodically, that is....
