What is "r' ratio on face of mechanical speedo? 200 1979

My 1979 244 BW55-tranny sedan mechanical speedo is making loud annoying gear(?) noises which probably means its worn out at 555,000 km (350,000 miles).

I managed to source a speedo out of a 1979 265 (only 142,000 km, 88,000 miles) but only after buying it I noticed that it has "r 0.585" on the speedo front but mine is "r 0.605".

There is only a 3% difference between the "r" ratios which seems close enough, but I can't find out what "r" is and whether my new speedo reading will be a bit too high or too low.

All I could find on Internet is that (most?) metric speedos have "r of 0.605" and imperial speedos have "r" 0.980"?
