steering column shake 200

replaced front bushings and ball joints, that solved the front end shake on the hwy. I'm still getting a significant rattle/shake when I go over rough road (lots of them out here), and it sounds like it is coming from the steering column itself. there is a noticeable play in the wheel with a sort of clicking sound when the car is parked.

column mounting bolts under the dash seem solid. lower u-joint looks ok, but maybe a little bit of play, but the loud rattle sounds like it is coming from my side of the firewall. do parts go bad inside the column, and if so is this a concern or just something to live with?
