1992 740 -- Want to get AC going (hasn't worked for years) -- Where do I start? 700

I have a 1992 Regina 740. I've had it 8 years and in that time the AC has hardly ever worked. Five years ago I asked the guy at the garage to recharge the system, it worked for week or so, then stopped working again. Now I'm considering having a go myself.

As far as recharging it myself, how can I tell whether it needs to be converted from R12 -> 134a? Unlike my 1994 940 (which has a sticker on the evaporator indicating "134a") -- there is no obvious information on what type of system I have in the 740. Any ideas on how I can determine this? (I've had a look at the FAQs but could see nothing obvious on this "getting started" bit)

Thanks,

Rob
