1995 940 Dead Blower Fan 900 1995

Hello All, been off the board for a while. But the somewhat sudden death of the blower fan in my wife's 940 means that I need to re-acquaint myself with the problems.

Fan Motor no longer works. wife tells me that it was preceded by some screeching. When I drove it, the fan was barely working, but was not making any horrible noises.

Drove it again today and the blower fan did nothing at all, no noise, no screeching, no movement of air. I figure the motor simply died. Car is 16 years old so it seems about time. I've been looking for volvo interchange info (including OEM part numbers) but I ran into a wrinkle.

I was reading up on the FAQ and there are multiple mentions of resistor packs and whatnot.

Is the resistor pack separate from the fan motor assembly, is there any way to rule out the resistor pack as the culprit before I drop the cash on a new blower fan?
