Cable from auto transmission to throttle body?

I recently had the transmission out of my auto 1990 740 Turbo. In doing so I unplugged a cable from the right side of the tranny that ran up under the hood and attached to the throttle body (that's where I popped it off). I'd never seen it before and did a search to see what it's for and it seems to tell the tranny when the accelerator is given a hard push so it can downshift appropriately. It went back in effortlessly but because of the two nuts that can be adjusted (and the fact that I loosened both of them) I'm not sure what it should be set at. There was extra cable, enough that it could slip out of place so I moved the nuts up about 3/4" and set it so that the line is taunt but not pulling enough to move the throttle body at all. Does anyone know if I have the right idea about this or a better idea of how this cable should be adjusted. Thanks.
