removing headrests 200 1989

I would bet this has been approached before--removing the front headrests on our '89 wagon. Ive done it on other wagons-I know where those little clip things are that you have to depress while pulling up on the headrest-best to use 2 people to do that I think, BUT I get the clip things depressed and the headrests on either one still won't come off or move up at all. Any more suggestions other than removing the seat and going at it from the inside of the covers with the seats upside down? BTW the front seats are leather if that makes any difference. Thanks.
