heater control valve 700 1989

hello-
while doing the engine swap the heater control valve broke. i was holding the hose connected to it and the plastic just broke off inside the hose. anyway, i bought a new one and installed everything except the vacuum line that goes in it because frankly i am unsure which one it is. there is a tiny, little line that would seem to be the logical choice but it does not fit on the little nipple on the valve. i saw a picture online where there is a bigger hose connected to the end of a small line that goes onto the valve. is this correct? or is that little line incorrect? if so...what could it go to? thanks.
