B230FT engine swap complete...sorta 700 1989

hi all.
everything's all hooked up.
i cranked the engine for 20-30 seconds to lubricate.
the good: started right up, no leaks anywhere.

the not so good: when i started it, the engine raced about 1800 rpms for a beat, then continued up to maybe 2300-2500. it maintained this engine speed. i tooled around with the throttle and the TPS so i'm thinking it could need adjustment?

the bad: there was smoke coming from the exhaust side of the engine. i shut it off after maybe a minute and the turbo/exhaust area was pretty damn hot for only having been running for a minute. the smoke seemed to be coming from below the turbo, or to the engine side of it.

i have been working on the car for about 12 hours today so i am done for the night but hopefully someone can provide some insight. any ideas where i should go from here?
